- Sprinkle the powder on hands or on a surface such as a countertop and then pass the UV light over the area; any remaining traces of powder will glow indicating residual bacteria
- Nearly invisible in ordinary light, Glo Germ glows under ultraviolet light
- Place a small amount of the oil in the palm of one hand and rub both hands together, after thoroughly washing hands, turn off the lights and place the UV flashlight over the hands and the "germs" are easily detected
